Biography

Volga German
Elisabeth (Unknown) Ebel was a Volga German.
Elisabeth (Unknown) Ebel has German Roots.

She is named in the Kulberg Reports as the wife of Adam Ebel and mother of four children:

  • Johann, born 1743
  • Johannes, born 1748
  • Heinrich, born 1753
  • Conrad, born 1758

Eldest son Johann does not appear in the 1767 Mueller census, but the other three boys do. Elisabeth, however is also missing and her husband has remarried. She most likely died during the journey to the Volga region or shortly after arriving in Mueller.

Johann Adam Ebel was born in Zell and baptized 26 November 1719, the son of Johann Werner Ebel, a shepherd, and his wife Anna Margaretha. Johann Adam married Elisabetha Bambeÿ, daughter of Conrad Bambeÿ from Angenrod, on 3 February 1743 in Billertshausen. They had one child in Billertshausen: Johann Heinrich, born 30 October, baptized 1 November 1743. They had four children in Zell: Johannes, born 22 January, baptized 24 January 1751; Johann Heinrich, born 22 February, baptized 23 February 1755; Johann Conrad, born 7 April, baptized 9 April 1758; and Anna Elisabeth, born 18 September, baptized 20 September 1761 (died 7 January and buried 9 January 1763).

Adam Ebel, his wife Elisabeth, and their sons Johann, Johannes, Johann Heinrich, and Conrad, arrived in Russia on 19 July 1766 on the same ship as a number of other families who settled in Müller.

Adam's wife and oldest son appear to have died during the journey to the villages. Adam, his new wife Anna Maria, and his three younger sons are reported on the Müller 1767 Census (First Settlers List) in Household #28.

The 1798 Census includes a number of individuals who appear to be descendants of this Ebel family. The Movement Tables in the 1798 Census state that Anna Elisabeth, daughter of Adam Ebel, moved to Galka to marry Konrad Ladner. This couple is reported in the 1798 Galka census in Household #51. There is also a Conrad Ebel, age 39, reported in the Galka 1798 Census in Household #61. In Müller, Maria Elisabeth Ebel, age 24, is reported in Household #8, and Household #24 includes Adam Ebel's widow Anna Maria Müller and son Gottfried. Johann Heinrich Ebel, age 43, from Müller, is reported in Stephan Household #12. The Movement Tables state that Anna Margaretha, daughter of Adam Ebel, moved to Grimm to marry Heinrich Müller. This couple is reported in Grimm Household #117.[1]
