Biography

Marie Louise Vincent Tims was born in 1875 at Kentish Town, London, England. She was the daughter of Charles Tims and Elizabeth Caroline Vincent. Her birth was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1857 at Pancras.

In the 1881 England and Wales Census, she was in a household at Hammersmith, Middlesex, London, aged 6, with her parents and 6 siblings.

In the 1891 England and Wales Census, she was in a household at Bridge Road, Barnes, Surrey, aged 16, a draper, with her parents and 4 siblings.

In 1893, she migrated to New Zealand with her parents and 5 siblings. They sailed from Sydney to Auckland on the S.S. Wakatipu and continued to Tauranga by the s.s Waiotahi, arriving in November 1893. Her father had reportedly purchased property at Tauranga and intended to settle there. They had relatives in the district.

On 21 March 1906 at St. Mark's Church, Remuera, Auckland, she married John William Hughes. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 1931.

She passed away on 15 of July 1966 at Auckland, aged about 91. She had been a widow residing at Avondale.
