Biography
Elizabeth was born in 1823 in South Carolina. Her surname at birth is unknown. In 1850 she is enumerated on the federal census with husband Reuben Bayless. Elizabeth is a year old than her husband and the household contains a six year old girl--Emily Lancaster. While the household composition could mean any number of things, the most likely possibility would seem to be that Reuben was Elizabeth's second husband and that Emily is her child by a first marriage.
