Barbara Josepha Rumpel was born on 19 November 1848 in Oberriedenberg, Brückenau, in the Kingdom of Bavaria, as daughter and first child of farmer ("Bauer") Peter Rumpel and his wife Ursula Büchner. She was baptized on the same day. Her godmother was Barbara Josepha Dorn.[1]
In 1853 she came to the US.[2]
In May 1874 she married Karl Hüfner in Huefner, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. They had five own children and an adopted son named James Lutz.[2]
Her husband passed away in 1903.[3]
She passed away in 1915 in Know Township, Clarion County, and was interred on Saint Cemetery in Lucinda.[4][5]
Her FindAGrave profile states her name as "Barbara Josephine Tritsch Huefner",[5] but unfortunately without any sources. Her husband's obituary, however, mentions that he married Barbara Tritsch.[3]
Her death record states her father as J. Brumbaugh, which was probably written by an English native speaker hearing a German name. It might be "Brombach".[4]
G Eakin says, that she doesn't know the correct last name for Barbara. She has seen it as Tritsch and also Rumple. If her last name was Rumple, G. has her parents listed as J Brumbaugh and Ursula Rumple and her birth place as "Obereir, Wurtenberg, Germany". In the family group sheet by Janet E. Staab OSB (1937-2017) below those typed words, there's a handwritten note, that says "Oberriedenberg", which matches the baptism record and Unterriedenberg, the birth place of Ursula's husband Karl Hüfner.
There is a Barbara Rummel, who was born about 1848, immigrating to the US in 1853 with her family.[6] This at least matches the year of immigration from the 1900 census.[2]
The 1860 census has a Barbra Trich, being daughter of Peter Trich and his wife Ursula (sic!) from Bavaria, living in Washington County.[7] This is the neighboring county of Knox County, where Barbara married Charles Huefner.
The 1870 census (one year before this Barbara married Charles Huefner) has a Barbara Rumple, 20 years old, working/living in a hotel in the same county.[8] She is stated as being a Pennsylvania native, but given the even age, that might be slightly off, both might have been estimates with her being absent.
