Biography
Gerardus was born on or just before 9 April 1795 in Boekel in the Netherlands as child of Theodorus van der Wijst and Agatha Alberts. He was baptized in the Roman Catholic church of Boekel on 9 April 1795.[1]
On 2 May 1817 he married Peternel van Stiphout. The marriage took place in Boekel.[2] The couple had at least two children:
- Johannes (1818-1903)
- Johanna Maria (1819-?)
Gerardus emigrated to Wisconsin in the United States.[3]
Gerardus was mentioned on a memorial at Saint John Cemetery, Little Chute, Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States, with a death date of 22 August 1854.[4]
Research notes
- Gerardus was baptized on 9 April 1795.[1] In these times children were baptized as soon after birth as possible, to prevent that the child would die unbaptized (and could not go to heaven). Hence Gerardus would have been born on 9 April 1795 or in the days before.
