Augustus Vaughan arrived in Wellington at the age of 15 with his parents on the ship 'Birman'.
At 24 he married Ann Elizabeth Freeman of the Netherlands in 1851 at St Peters Church.
He worked for a time in Wellington in his trade as a Tailor and lived on Lambton Quay in the city. Augustus and his family moved to Westport on the West Coast, possibly in the early 1870's.
Record has it that he acted as an informer in some sly grog-selling charges which were later dismissed in court.
Augustus Vaughan died in hospital age 54, leaving a wife and family and is buried at Reefton.
