William Vernon was born in 1828 in Liverpool Lancashire England.

He married Mary Pye on 6 August 1849 in Warrington, Lancashire. [2]
In 1851 he was living with his wife and son in Warrington. He was a waterman. [3]
In 1871 he was on a vessel called "The Weaver", moored at Bank Quay, Warrington. He was the ship's master; his son James was the mate. [4]
