Biography

Ronald was born in 1924 in Philipstown, New Tredegar, Wales.

His parents were ‘’’William Viney’’’ and ‘’’Mary Evans’’’.^[1]

He arrived in New Zealand about 1951. Ronald never married and did not have children. He worked as a painter in Auckland.

His niece, Lynda, told this story: I never met Ron but my dad kept in touch with him. He told me that Ron was in the merchant navy and there was some problem about him owing tax to the British government, so Ron jumped ship in Australia and then took another ship to New Zealand and never returned. I knew he hadn't married or had children but lived with a landlady. She kindly sent dad some photos of Uncle Ron after he died and I believe there was a small money bequest as well.^[2]

Ronald passed away in 1993 at Auckland Hospital of pneumonia. His remains were cremated at Mangere. His last address was 2 Akiraho Street, Mt Eden.
