Biography
Babette was born Feb. 29, 1892. The grave description lists her birthplace as Little Rock, Saline County, Arkansas, USA. Her parents were Abraham Vogel and Rebecca Kaufman. She has an older sister, Louisa.
By 1900, the family had relocated to Shreveport City, Ward 1, Caddo County, Louisiana, USA. The image is blurry, but it appears they were renting a residence on Spring St. Rebecca's sister, Theresa Kaufman was living with them. Again, the text is difficult to read, but it appears that Abraham (listed as Adam, works as an upholsterer. Babette is listed as Bettie. Louisa is listed as Lucille. Everyone is listed as able to read, write, and speak English. The census also notes that Rebecca has had 5 other children who are deceased.
In 1905 or 1906, Samuel is born. By 1910, the family had relocated to Beaumont Ward 2, Jefferson County, TX. Perhaps to get young Samuel out of the yellow fever epidemic of 1905? Theresa is not with them, however, they now have a 10 year old lodger named Jerome Harris. I believe he is buried here. The family's names have changed. Bettie is now Babette and so on.
By 1920, Babette’s parents have both died. She now appears as Barbara Hynes born 1893. Also, her late father’s birthplace erroneously lists Tennessee. She is now living in Lowell, Cochise County, Arizona with husband JH Hynes Jr born 1891 in Louisiana. Perhaps they met while she was living in Louisiana? She has 2 daughters, Babette born 1917 in Texas and Nellie born 1920 in Arizona.
