Biography

“George C. Von Holtz, 72, husband of Elsie Quonce Von Holtz, Apartment 25, Hamilton Homes, died last night in Oswego Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. Born in Southport, Conn., April 18, 1889, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Adelaide Eddy Von Holtz. Mr. Von Holtz was employed as a lineman for Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. for 25 years, retiring in 1959 because of illness. He was a member of the 25-Year Club of N.M. and a member and former officer of the U.E.A. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and a former member of the Knights of Pythias. His first wife, Lottie Collins, died in 1935 and he married Elsie Quonce in 1937. Surviving with his wife are four sons. Theodore E. Fairfield Conn.; Patrolman George W Von Holtz of the Oswego Police Department; Alexander C., Oswego; Edward F. Fairfield, Conn.; two daughters, Mrs Robert (Dorothy) Baker and Mrs. Donald (Adelaide) McIntyre, both of Oswego; a brother, Theodore E. of Bridgeport, Conn.; a sister, Mrs. Harry (Dora) Williams of Green Farms, Conn.; 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Scoville funeral home, with the Rev. Morrison Rider, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in Rural cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Scoville funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 and Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.”[1]
