Incendiarism. - William Lithall was on Wednesday last brought before the bench on a charge of burning a stack of wheat, the property of Anthony Wake, a tenant of Mrs. Harper, at Oswald. It appeared from the evidence of Wake and his wife, and Richard Clark, a man in their employ, that the prisoner, who occupied part of the same paddock with Wake and a person named Hemson had had frequent quarrels with Wake, and had been heard to say that he would be even with him and his wife, whom he considered a bad couple-and so forth. On the night of the burning of the stack (the 28th January) the prisoner, but no one else, had been near it. That was about three quarters of an hour after dark and by eleven o'clock the stack was in a blaze. While it was burning, the prisoner was seen looking on; and afterwards, on being accused by
Mrs. Wake of the deed, he said that if she had let his property alone he would have let hers alone. He was remanded for further evidence.
