The son of Thomas Hopewell Walton (1851-1930) and Clara Deborah Rooker (1853-1939), John Walton was born in Muncy Township, Pennsylania[citation needed] in 1878, residing there with his family who, in 1880, lived with his maternal grandparents, John and Mary Rooker.[1]
John married Elizabeth Viola Mulligan (1879-1967), the daughter of William Mulligan and Anna Mary Confer, marrying on April 19, 1900[citation needed] and having three children together:
They made their home together in Muncy Creek Township, Pennsylvania, where John worked as a machinist,[2] and residing together in 1910 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania,[3]
John registered for the World War I draft when he was 40, registering in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on September 12, 1918.[4] He stated that he lived at 82 Washington Street in Williamsport and that he worked as a superintendent of munitions manufacturing at Lycoming Foundry and Machine Company in Williamsport. John was described as a tall man, of medium build, with brown hair and grey eyes. He did not enlist, and continued to live and work in Williamsport.[5]
His marriage ended in divorce, and John moved to Ohio, residing in 1930 in Toledo, Ohio, rooming that year with Milton and Gertrude Swan while working at an automobile factory as a machinist.[6] John remarried, marrying Lucille May (Anderson) Walton in Highland Park, Michigan on January 21, 1933[citation needed] taking up residence together in Toledo.[7]
John registered for the World War II draft when he was 64, registering in Toledo, Oho on April 25, 1942.[8] He stated that he lived at 801 Kipling Drive in Toledo and that he worked for Electric Auto Lite Company on Champlain Street in Toledo. John was described as 5'9" tall and 159 pounds, and noted that he his left forefinger was "off." Having registered in the "old man's draft," he did not enlist.
John Walton passed away in Toledo, Ohio[citation needed] at the age of 88[9] and is buried at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Toledo.[10]
