Edmund (later Edward) Waring was born in 1862. He was the son of John Waring and his wife Martha, born Martha Ann Varney. ^{[1] [2]}

In 1871 Edmund Waring was living at Hethe with his parents, John and Martha A., and their other children. His age was given as 9, implying a birth date in 1861 or 1862. His birthplace was given as Hethe, Oxfordshire. He was at school. ^[2]

In 1881 Edmund or Edward was living in Frog Lane at Bodicote in Oxfordshire with his parents and his younger brother Peter. [The first name was originally entered as Edmund, and apparently corrected to Edward.] His age was given as 18, implying a birth date in 1862 or 1863. His birthplace was given as Hethe, Oxfordshire.
