Biography
Bertha was born in December 1822 in Rauceby, to Mary Hutchinson. Mary was the mistress of Adlard Welby, esquire, a Lincolnshire landowner who recognized Bertha as his daughter in his 1861 will. In his 1841 journal, Adlard notes that Bertha was born at half past 7 AM.
