He was born about 1822.^[1]

Joshua died on 9 September 1895, at the Masonic Home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died of exhaustion, apparently with laryngitis contributing. He was 73 years old, not working (a "gentleman"), and a widower. On 11 September 1895, he was buried, in Mount Peace Cemetery.^[2]
