Samuel Whan was born in Ireland.

Samuel was born about 1810.^[1]

He was the son of Samuel Whan, farmer. ^[2]

On 1 Sep 1846 at 1st Cookstown Presbyterian, he married Margaret Weir, daughter of William Weir of Unagh. He lived at Claggan (parish not specified). ^[3]

He was the father of Rev. Robert James Whan B.A. , pastor of Clare congregation in Tandragee; and uncle of Rev. Robert Whan B.A., pastor of Maze, County Down. ^[4]

He passed away 25 or 26 Mar 1893 at his residence of Fair View House, Claggan, Dungannon. Age 83 was given on the civil death , or age 80 in the newspaper. The chief mourners were: ^{[5] [4]}
