Biography

Harold Whip is an Anzac who served in World War One.

Albert was born in 1899. He was known by his middle name, Harold, and was the son of Albert Philip Whip (Allie Whip) and Emily Cordingley.

Harold served in World War One with service no. 50742, enlisting in December 1917. During the War he sustained injuries, which were to affect him for the rest of his life.

Following the war, Harold married Poppy Walduck of Roma. This was in 1926.

He passed away in 1942 as a result of illness. His obituary states he was 43 years old and appeared in the Balonne Beacon on 27 August 1942 as follows:

MR. HAROLD WHIP
The death took place at Wentworth Falls, N.S.W. on Thursday last of Mr. Harold Whip at the age of 43 years. Deceased was a son of the late Mr. A. P. Whip a well know grazier of the Roma district. He had followed station work, and was a good all round bushman and enlisted In the A.I.F. In the war 1914/18, having considerable service overseas. Returning to Roma district after the war, he again followed bush work for some time and later became a registered bookmakers, operating on most of the south western racecourses and later In the Brisbane area. He was a good supporter of all sport. He married Miss Poppy Walduck of Roma, and is survived by his widow and two daughters. MR. HAROLD WHIP DEAD
Mr. Harold Whip, 43 years, well-known Brisbane bookmaker, died at Wentworth Falls (N.S.W.) yesterday after a long illness. His body will be cremated in Sydney today. Bookmaker's Death
Good fellow, outstanding, sports man, and a member of that immortal band, the 1914-18 A.I.F., Harold Whip, well-known Brisbane bookmaker, died last Wednesday after a long illness.
WHIP, who suffered ill-health as a result of war injuries, was a hos pital case some little time after the 1941 Doomben Newmarket meeting. His legion of friends were overjoyed to learn that he was making pro-gress a couple of months ago, but he collapsed a fortnight ago, and died. Whip was known as one of the most dashing of Brisbane's fielders. He was known by the racing public all over Queensland, and his loss will be keenly felt.
