Doctor Thomas Jefferson Whipple Jr. was a well-known physician in northern New Hampshire and served in the United States House of Representatives.
He received a medical degree from Dartmouth College in 1814 and began practicing as a physician first in Bradford Vermont and later in Hanover New Hampshire. He was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1818-1820. In 1820 he returned to his medical practice.
According to Silas McKeen's History of Bradford, the death of Whipple's first wife Phebe Tabor Whipple in 1823 at the age of 39 caused Dr. Whipple to begin drinking in excess resulting in his early death of alcoholism.
The death of Dr. Thomas Jefferson Whipple Jr. was a huge loss to the residents of Vermont, New Hampshire and thr Connecticut River Valley.
