William Oswald Whitridge was born in 1853 in Kensington, South Australia. He was on the staff of the newspaper "The South Australian Register" for 42 years, much of this time as head of the publishing department. He was a notable cricketer; he was also a cricket umpire, and umpired a Test match between Australia and England in Adelaide, South Australia, in 1892. He died aged 65 in 1919, at his home, "Ringmer", in Wyatt Road, Burnside, a suburb of Adelaide. [1] [2]
