Biography
John was baptised on 19 September 1569 at Elland, Yorkshire, the son of Edmund Whittell.[1]
He married Mary Farrar on 25 September 1600 at Elland, Yorkshire.[2]
He is mentioned in the will of his wife's brother Henry in 1606: I devise £88 to Mary Whittell my sister now wife of John W. of Ealand, he to be bound to my cousins Henry Farrer Esq., & Anthony Wade of the Peele house for the true payment unto Henry Farrer the elder my father and Bridgett his wife my natural mother an annuity of £8 for the lives of sd Henry & Bridget. To Margaret Whittall his dau., & to such other child by Mary my said sister at full age or marriage .... Whereas I have already given to my sister Mary £3.6.8 at her marriage which was the gift of my late grandfather John Hanson of the Woodhouse the elder, I do further give to Margaret dau. of John Whittell & the said Mary £20."[3]
John died in 1637 and was buried on 9 January 1636/1637 at Elland.[4] He left a will dated 30 December 1636 and proved March 1637 "Whittell, John, Marshall Hall in Eland, yeoman".[5]
