Biography

Thomas Whitten was born in 1854 in Table Bluff, Humboldt, California. He was the son of James Whitten and a Native American woman called "Lem" and "Mary".

Thomas' father was murdered when he was 2 years old. He and his two brothers subsequently went to live with James C. Foss.^[1]

In 1870, Thomas (age 15) was enumerated, without occupation, in the household of John Duncan. Thomas' mother and stepfather lived nearby.^[2]

In 1880, Thomas was enumerated as a laborer, living in the household of Joseph Davidson. Thomas' mother, enumerated as "Sally Marcus", lived nearby him at this time.^[3] It would appear that Thomas had worked as a stable keeper for Frederick Barton just prior to this.^[4]

Thomas worked as a shepherd and shearer.

Thomas passed away on 18 Feb 1941 in Blackfoot, Bingham, Idaho.^[5] He was buried in an unmarked grave at Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot.^[6]
