Biography

Matthew Whittle was born in Ireland.

Matthew Whittle was born on 1st September 1908 in Ballyshoneen, Kilmacleague, Co. Waterford, Ireland. He is the second son of David Whittle (a farmer) and Hanora Butler.^[1][2][3]

In 1911 Matthew was a three year old living with his parents and two brothers (one older and one younger) in Ballyshoneen, Kilmacleague, Waterford.^[4][5][6]

Matthew registered the death of his father in 1928 and probably helped to manage the family farm for his mother after that. She died in March 1943 and a few months later on 28th July 1943, Matthew married Bridget Ryan, a local woman, in Tramore Church.^{[7][8] [9]}

Matthew and Bridget had seven children. Two of them sadly died young: Patrick aged 2 days in 1948 ^[10] and William aged 2 years in 1956. ^[11] The complete family seems to be as follows:
