Carl Heinrich Wilcken was born in Dahme, Oldenburg, Schleswig-Holstein on May 17, 1856. He was the son of Charles Henry Wilcken and Eliza Reiche. He was baptized in the Lutheran church on June 17, 1856.[1]
In 1857, his father left for North America. [2] He settled in Utah and converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. [2] In 1860, Carl, his mother, and his older sister left Germany to join his father in the United States. They travelled from Liverpool to New York on the ship William Tapscott, departing on May 11, 1960 and arriving on June 16, 1960. [3]
After arriving in New York, they took a train to St. Joseph, Missouri with a group of Saints.[4] They took a river steamer up to Florence, Nebraska and started the journey west to Utah.[5] Eliza and her children travelled by wagon, reaching Utah by August 1860. [4][6]
He died on December 2, 1921 in Provo, Utah.[7][8][9]
