Biography

Martha was born about 1826 to Mark Wilcock, manufacturer, and Mary

In the 1841 census she is 15, living with her father, mother and siblings[1]

In the 1851 census she is 27, living with her mother and siblings[2]

In the 1861 census, Hannah Taylor (31, unmarried dress maker born Halifax), James Taylor (23, unmarried, rolling and carpet board maker born Halifax) and boarder Martha Wilcox (35, unmarried, Nurser born Halifax) are resident at 3 Green Lane, Halifax[3]. This is the same address registered to their step-father John Hardcastle (1789-), although his death-date is not found.

James Taylor married Martha Wilcock on 28 Aug 1862. James was 26, a joiner, and his father John Taylor was a weaver. Martha was 30, daughter of Mark WIlcock, a manufacturer.[4]

In the 1871 census, "Samuel" Taylor (33, joiner born Halifax), wife Martha Taylor (44 born Midgley), daughter Sarah Hannah Taylor (3 born Halifax) and border Joshua Padget (23) are resident at Green Lane, Halifax[5]

In the 1881 census, Martha Taylor (56, widowed laundress born Midgeley) and daughter Sarah H (13, tapestry carpet maker) are resident at 12 Green Lane, Halifax[6]

In the 1891 census, Martha Taylor (66) and Sarah H Taylor (23, unmarried carpet weaver) are resident at 12 Green Lane, Halifax[7]

Martha died aged 67 on 26 July 1891 and is buried at plot 3863, Lister Lane Cemetery[8]

Martha's family are buried at Lister Lane Cemetary, plot 2270[9], although Martha is not
