Biography

Frederick was born in 1887 in Hove, Sussex, the son of Henry Williams and his wife Ellen Louisa, nee Croker.

In the 1891 Census of England he is living in Hove, Sussex with his parents and 5 siblings. His father is an ostler.[1] In the 1901 Census of England he is still living with his parents and 5 siblings in Hove, Sussex. His father is a bus driver.[2]

Frederick initially worked as a labourer for F. Stringer in Hove, Sussex.

He became a driller in about 1910. He had worked for the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway for about 2 years.

He probably migrated to Queensland Australia on the "Themistocles", arriving in Brisbane, QLD on 10 Apr 1911.[3]

Frederick worked for a few months at Mitchells & Co. in West Footscray, Victoria before working for Walkers Ltd of Maryborough, Queensland as a driller and boilermaker's assistant for 6 years.

On 05 Feb 1917 he applied to become an Australian Munitions Worker under a joint Australian government/ British government scheme to supply skilled workers for the War effort in the UK. At the time he was single and living in Maryborough, QLD.

However, before he was accepted he married Amy May Peres at the home of her parents in Maryborough, Queensland on 20 Mar 1917. Frederick's brother, Ernest gave the bride away.[4] There were at least two children (to 1921).[5]

He was accepted and he was issued with Australian Munitions Worker Badge No. 1999. He embarked on the SS "Ulysses" from Fremantle, Western Australia on 22 May 1917, arriving at Plymouth, England on 29 Jul 1917.

He began work at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich as a labourer on 07 Aug 1917.

Frederick returned to Australia on the SS "Alexandra Woerman", departing from Tilbury, England on 06 May 1919. His agreement was terminated as complete on 07 Jul 1919 after disembarking in Brisbane, QLD.

He died in Maryborough, Queensland in 1959.
