Biography

Hugh Wilson was a South Carolinian.

Capt. Hugh Wilson[1] lived in South Carolina. He married Elizabeth Gambrell, daughter of John Gambrell and Mary Harper. This was the second marriage for both of them.

Children:

  • Drayton Stringer, step-son, b. ab 1833
  • Andrew J. Stringer, step-son, b. ab 1836
  • John H. Wilson, b. ab 1840 (dec'd at writing of will)
  • Robert J./James R. Wilson, b. ab 1842

Hugh and his family were listed on the 1850 census together,[2] and the 1860 census.[3]

Property

Hugh Wilson had a plantation of 440 acres that he bequeathed to his wife Elizabeth.[4]

Death

Hugh Wilson died in 1863. He wrote his will 4 Sept 1862, and it was proven 1 Dec 1863.[4]

Hugh Wilson is buried in the Big Creek Cemetery, Anderson County, South Carolina.[5]

Slaves

Hugh Wilson was a slaveowner.[6] He named a number of enslaved persons in his will and probate papers.[4][7][8]
