Sources

Brief Life History( from The Story of Plum & FamilySearch) This record for John Wilson was created in 2014 with birth in 1752 in Mecklenburg NC and death in June 1795 in the same place. The attached Find a Grave source also has 1752, but lists his birth place as Ireland but NC fits with family info. His grave has the same death info plus the day 12. See also notes about his family and source of the Story of Plum that has his Wilson family info. This story says he was 38 in 1795 so his birth could have been in 1857, but his grave says he was in his 43rd year.

In 2014 his father was added as Samuel Wilson Sr 1710 - 1778 and this is supported by the sources noted above. Mary Winslow was added as his mother born in 1725, but then changed to 1713 birth and 1748 death with Osborne as middle name. Later in Jan 2020 a user removed her as her listed death date was years before John's birth. Her death date should be checked, but Samuel had 3 marriages per the Story of Plum and she is the best fit for John's mother. Mary Winslow’s death date is listed as 1748, but she is also linked to Samuel Jr born in 1750 so her death may not have been till 1752 or later. Her husband remarries in 1760 so John Wilson born in 1752 is likely Mary’s son.

In 2016 his father was noted as a Reverend. Find a Grave also lsts john as a Reverend.

Excerpt for Wilson family from The Story of Plum:

In 1778 Samuel Wilson died. In 1795 his son John Wilson died at the age of 38. Having neither wife nor child he left his plantation and the bulk of his estate to his half-brother William Jack Wilson who was age 17 at that time. William was the youngest child of Margaret Jack Wilson, Samuel’s third wife. He had been born after his father’s death and, since his father did not know whether the child would be a boy or a girl, was left only a small inheritance. The rest of the family, and John Wilson in particular, probably felt that they should make a more ample provision for the boy.

In July 1795 a motion was made in court to admit the will to probate. One of his sons, David, and others questioned (“caveated”) the will and asked the court to order that John Wilson’s belongings be collected.

From Find a Grave Baker Cemetery was moved from its original location to Centre Presbyterian Church Graveyard when Lake norman was formed from the Catawba River in 1960. Per Centre Presbyterian Church Cemetery Records. ∼ Died in the 43rd year of his life.
