Biography
Emily's parents retired from active amateur sporting events and settled in Marton where they were to raise a family.
Emily was their second child but their first surviving one. They had lost a son in Timaru in 1876. Emily was born in January 1877 which means that her mother could well have been pregnant with her following their most intensive time of pedestrianism and after the exhibition held in Auckland - a hundred mile walk in the Auckland City Hall theatre in 1876, followed by an event in June in Wellington.
Emily was born in Marton in January 1877.
She married Robert Terry in 1895 and they had a son in 1896 named Robert Joseph Terry. William George Terry was born the following year, and Mavis in 1904 in Palmerston North.
In 1900 they were living in Palmerston North where her husband Robert was a labourer. In 1905 they were in Pitt Street, and Robert was a carrier. In 1911 they were in Shannon in Nathan Terrace, and 1928 they were also in Shannon, husband a labourer and son Robert Joseph Terry a motor driver. In 1938 she was living in Vance Street in Shannon, but was now widowed.
Emily's son Robert Joseph Terry served in WWI, and she was named as his next of kin, and he also served in WWII. He died in 1941.
