Obituary

INDEPENDENCE — Claude G. Winberg, 87, of Independence died Monday, February 19, 2007, at Grand View Care Center in Blair.

He was born November 3, 1919, in Chimney Rock Township, Trempealeau County, to Ole and Amanda (Olson) Winberg. He married Veronica Sylla on May 10, 1943, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence.

Claude worked as a farmer, as a milk hauler and at a truck equipment shop in Pleasantville. He enjoyed fishing, singing and dancing to music — especially to the Rhythm Playboys. But his greatest love of all was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Veronica, of Independence; four children, Janet (Peter) Knutson of Cape Coral, Fla., Thomas (Nancy) Winberg of La Crosse, William Winberg of Columbus, Wis., and Mary Lynn (Steven) Reeter of Parker, Colo.; two sisters, Betty Mae Scott of Lodi, Calif., and Emelia (James) Jacobson of Fall Creek; six grandchildren, Heidi (Christopher) Green of Madison, Krista (Steven) Schaaf of St. Paul, Minn., Yolanda Winberg of Madison, Erika and Elizabeth Winberg of La Crosse and Amanda Reeter of Parker, Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Evan and Lily Schaaf, Emma and Peter Green.

Claude was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lonnie and Charles Winberg; and two grandsons, Brett and Alec Reeter.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence, with the Very Rev. Douglas C. Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a rosary.
