This is my paternal grandmother, who married Vernon McLin Nix on March 05, 1916, in Gainesville, Cooke Co., Texas. They had 11 children, and after #6, my Dad, Foy Garland Nix, was born on 9/29/1927, in Vernon, TX, the entire family moved to Hinton, OK, and lived 5 miles East of Hinton, near the Canadian River and actually, in Canadian Co. (Niles, OK), until they retired from farming, and moved into town in Hinton. Their children all attended Moss Grove School, and then all graduated from Hinton High School.

Maude Winn Nix is the daughter of Henry Clayton Winn (1873-1953) & Miranda Eldora Bell Leming (1877-1957). They married on Nov. 3, 1895, in Washington Co., AR. She was the oldest child of 6 children: Maude-1896, Dolly Grace-1899, Cora Helen-1902, John Boston-1904, Clyde Clayton-1908, & Millie Lorean-1913. Their parents, Henry & Miranda Leming Winn, are buried in the Potosi Cemetery, Jones Co., Abilene, TX.

Maude Augusta Winn Nix, whose forefathers were of English Royal Aristocracy and came to the U.S. 100 years before the American Revolution to plan it, and follow it through for freedom of religion, speech, and public education for all races and creeds in the New America. Many fought in war, and many lost their lives as their sacrifices for these freedoms. They lived in fear of retaliation all their lives, and moved often...living in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Texas, Indian Territory/ Oklahoma, and finally, home in Hinton, OK, and Binger, Oklahoma, until my grandparents' deaths. They are buried in the Hinton Cemetery.

They had 11 children together, of which 7 listed below have already passed-on to Heaven. Their surviving children are Garland-1927; Roy-1930, Curtis-1932, and Lois-1934. They also had 42 biological grandchildren, and numerous great and grgr-grandchildren.

Grandma loved family, and years ago, started the huge Nix/Winn Family Reunions every 2 years since I can remember. In 1988, the one at Aunt "Pernia" Nix Mills & husband, Pershing's home, in Gracemont, OK, exceeded 275 at one point in the 3 day celebration! No doubt, Grandma Nix looked down with great pride and joy that her tradition is alive & still thriving.... to this day!

Grandma loved God, family, old pictures & stories, Christian music, and fellowship. She was a quiet & simple woman, but would definitely share her opinion when asked to do so! She & Grandpa loved to play Rook, and sit in the front yard and visit with friends & relatives. She was a great cook, and could always make something out of almost nothing....especially, her stove-top cherry cobbler and Pecan Pie....MY favorite!

Two days stand out to me with smiles from Grandma Nix like I'd never seen before, and that was the day her youngest son, Rev. Dois Dean Nix, graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, OK, with his degree in the ministry & music. The other was hers and Grandpa's 50th Wedding Anniversary, in 1966, in Hinton, OK. Everyone of her children, their spouses, and grandchildren from all over the USA were in attendance!!! What a grand event it was for all! Grandma never looked so pretty!
