Biography

This profile is part of the Eastrington, Yorkshire One Place Study.

William was born in Sancton, Yorkshire, England, and baptised in Winestead in 1847. He was the son of Rhoda Withell.[1] Rhoda married Joseph Rispin in 1849;[2] in 1851 William lived with his parents and maternal grandparents, William and Susanna Withell, in Sancton.[3][4]

At the time of the 1871 census he lodged with the Barras family in Ecclesfield, Yorkshire, while working as a carter.[5]

William married Susan Whisker in Hull, Yorkshire, later in 1871.[6] The family lived in Eastrington, Yorkshire, in 1881, when William worked as a railway porter.[7] Susan died in 1887 at the age of 38.[8]

William married Emily Parry in 1889.[9] In 1891 the family lived in Ecclesfield, Yorkshire.[10]

William died in 1899 at the age of 51.[11]
