Biography

Sarah was born in Rockford, Surry County, North Carolina between 1822 and 1825.^[1] She was likely the daughter of Thomas Wood and the sister of Andrew and Peter Wood, but this has not been proven. Thomas Wood and William Coe (father of Jesse Coe, Sarah's future husband) were both living in Captain Badgett's District of Surry County in 1812 and in Captain Daniel Marrian's District in 1820.^[2] They were also living near each other in 1830 at Surry County.^[3].

She was likely the daughter age 5-9 in the household of Thomas Wood at Surry County in 1830.^[3]

She married Jesse Coe before 1840. This estimate is based on the 1840 census and the birthyear of their eldest known child.

In 1840 Sarah was likely the female age 15-19 in the household of Jesse Coe at Surry County.^[4]

In 1850 Sally Coe was living at Rockford, Surry County with her husband and five children: Adaline, Chambers, Delila, Hastin and Serena Coe. She was listed as 25 years old. They were living next door to Thomas Wood.^[5]

In 1860 Sarah Coe was living with eight children: Chambers, Delilah, Saml H., L?, Madison, James, Jesse and Sarah Coe. She was recorded as a 38 year old widow.^[6]

She died sometime after 1860.
