Charlotte Jane was born about 1814 in Church-Knowle in the Wareham district of Dorset,.

Details relating to Charlotte Jane's life are problematic :-

• 1861 census record ^[1] shows a 'Charlotte Vernon' born Wareham Dorset age 46 (therefore YOB 1815) living in West Bromwich with her (soon to be) husband James Vernon .

• 1865 marriage Charlotte Jane Stride (widow) and James Vernon (widower) marry ^[2] on Christmas day 1865 at All Saints Church West Bromwich The marriage record details the brides father as John Woodley, occupation farmer, witnesses Henry Wilkins and John Harris .

• 1871 census living with husband James Vernon, shows Charlotte Jane's (YOB 1813) birth place as Ware Dorset (probably a transcription error should read Wareham ) ^[3]

• 1874 second quarter, husband James's death registration, West Bromwich.^[4].

• 1875 February 14, Charlotte Jane Vernon (resident Swan village West Bromwich) marriage to Archibald Case (resident Horsley) , marriage record shows brides father as John Woodley (a farmer), witnesses Joseph Harris and Elizabeth Harris (thought to be Joseph and Elizabeth Harris although not proven) , St Mark Ocker Hill Tipton Stafforshire. ^{[5] [6]}

• 1875 first quarter marriage registration, Dudley.^[7].

• 1881 census : shows Charlotte Jane Vernon, widow aged 67 living alone in Hallam Street West Bromwich, a pauper, birth place Corfe-Castle Dorset.

No details have been found directly relating to Charlotte Jane Woodley, born 1815 with a father John Woodley, nor any details of a marriage between Charlotte Woodley and anyone with the name Stride.

Searches also show : -

• Charlotte Woodley baptised 1808 ^{[8] [9]} in Church Knowle Dorset , father John and Susannah Woodley. From the available records it seems most likely this is Charlotte Stickland Woodley who married James Bennett in 1827 ^{[10] [11]}, Stickland being her mother, Susannah's, name before marriage ^[12]. Records also suggest that John and Susannah had four children. all baptised in Dorset, John (1793 to 1794), Elizabeth (1798), Sarah (1803) and Charlotte (1808). Indications are that John passed away in 1808/1809 ^[13]. It also seems that Susannah gave birth to a daughter Susannah in 1811^[14], sadly she passed away, aged 39, in 1811 ^[15].

WIP

Church Knowle is in the district of Wareham about 2 miles from Corfe-Castle the location Charlotte Jane gives as her birth place on the 1881 census. Further research shows that a John Bennett, was buried ^[16] the first quarter 1848 in Wareham whether this be the husband of Charlotte Stickland Woodley is not proven. Research continues.
