Biography

James was born in 1829 in Person, North Carolina, United States. He was the son of James Woody and Harriet Elizabeth Wade.

In the 1850 census, Tinsley (age 21), Farmer, was living with his brother John Woody (age 36) in a household adjacent to that of their parents James and Harriet (Wade) Woody in Person, North Carolina, United States.[1]

Tinsley married Obedience Dixon about 1855, most likely in Person, North Carolina. Tinsley and Obedience had the following children:

  3. James D Woody
  4. Warner G Woody
  5. Annis L Woody
  6. Moses Woody
  7. Edward W Woody
  8. Samuel B Woody

In the 1860 census, Tinsley (age 30), Farmer, was living with his wife Obedience (age 25) and two daughters, Mary E (age 4) and Harriet (age 2) in Person, North Carolina.[2] Tinsly Woody was recorded as the owner of six enslaved persons in a slave schedule in 1860 in Person, North Carolina, United States as a slave owner of 6 enslaved people.[3]

Tensley served in the Civil War. He enlisted in the Confederate Army on 10 March 1863 in Person County, North Carolina.[4] Tensley served as a Private in the 13th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry.[5]

In the 1870 census, Tinsley (age 41), Farmer, was living with his wife Obedience and six children in Woodsdale, Person, North Carolina.[6]

T A Woody died (age 41) in July 1877 in Virginia.[7] In the 1880 census, his wife Obediance (age 46), Housekeeper, was the widowed head of household in Cunninghams, Person, North Carolina, United States.[8]
