Olive was born in 1891^[1] in Carlton, Yorkshire, England, where she lived with her parents, James Wright and Eliza Greenfield, in 1891.^[2] The family had moved to Eastrington, Yorkshire, by 1901.^[3]

At the time of the 1911 census, Olive worked as a domestic servant for the Wheatley family in Bridlington, Yorkshire.^[4]
