Charles was born in summer 1911, the second child and only son of Walter Wynne and Gertrude Warburton.
Charles Trafford Wynne passed away in autumn 1933:[1]
We deeply regret to record the death which occurred (as briefly reported in last night's "Sentinel") at the North Staffordshire Infirmary late yesterday afternoon, of Mr. Charles Trafford Wynne, only son of Mr. W. Watkyn Wynne, Clerk to the Stone Justices, and Mrs. Wynne of Rhondda, Stone.
Mr. Wynne was taken ill on the Stone Hockey Club ground last Saturday afternoon, shortly before the start of a match between Stone and Rolls-Royce, in which he was to have played. He was conveyed in a car to receive medical attention, and on the way relapsed into unconsciousness from which he never recovered. He was removed to Hartshill on Wednesday morning.
Born on July 21st, 1911, he was educated at Alleyne's Grammar School, Stone, and at Denstone College. On leaving college he was articled in 1928 to Mr. S. W. Orme, of Messrs. Paddock, Son and Orme, solicitors, Hanley. Last June he passed his Law final examination at the early age of 21 and would have been admitted a solicitor next month.
It was in the realm of sport, however, that he was most widely known. Like his sister, Miss Margaret Wynne, he showed a marked aptitude in lawn tennis at a very early age. At Denstone he gained his House Colours for rugby, football and cricket. He won his school tennis Colours in his first year, and became captain of tennis in his third year.
He signaled his entry into competitive tennis by winning the Staffordshire Junior Championship for three successive years - 1927, 1928 and 1929 - thus winning the cup outright. In 1927 he competed in the Junior Championship at Wimbledon, progressing through to the fifth round, when he was beaten 7-5 in the final set by G. St. Croix...
"Charles" as he was universally known to a host of friends and acquaintances, was a great sportsman, both on and off the field. His cheery good nature made him popular everywhere, and his death will come as a sever shock to a very wide circle. [2]
