She was 25 years old when she married John (Jack) Patrick Lynch, aged 31, at a private residence in Stockpoort, on 28 February 1905. Six sons were born of this marriage:
Minnie earned much respect in the district for her efforts in WWII. At one stage she was writing to five sons and sending them regular parcels of food and knitted goods. She also served on the local branch of the Victoria League, an international ladies support group, and was subsequently awarded two medals for her meritorious service. Marshall Jan Smuts, then Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Union, signed her citation for “The South African Medal for War Services”. This medal and its citation are in the possession of Joan Lynch. An interesting article and a follow-up about Minnie’s five sons appeared in The Friend.[2]
Minnie was in her 80th year when she died on 5 July 1959 in the National Hospital in Bloemfontein, Orange Free State.[3][4]
