Biography

George B Young was born about 1826 in England, based on his census information.

The 1850 Federal Census shows George living in Verona, Oneida County, New York, with his mother, Asenath Young.^[1]

George B Young married Hester Ann Bailey in Winnebago County, Illinois, on 26 December 1856, when he was about 30 years old.^[2]

The 1860 Federal Census shows George and Hester living in the town of Harlem, in Winnebago, Illinois, with their six month old son, Morris (Willard Morris Bailey). Also living in the household are George's two brothers, Hamilton-32, Anson-26, George's widowed mother, Asenath Young-67, and a boarder, Patrick Mahoney-24, an Irish immigrant.^[3]

In 1870 Hester and George still lived on the farm in Harlem, Illinois, with their three children: Willard-10, Alice-6, and Jennie-3.^[4]

The family was still living on in Harlem, Illinois in 1880. Willard was then 20, and was working on the family farm. Alice was 17. Jennie was 13, and was at school.^[5]

Documentation of George B Young's death has not yet been located, but the 1900 Federal Census shows his wife Hester as a widow, living with her dauhters Alice and Jennie in Harlem, Illinois.^[6]
