Thomas Moffat Young, C.B., was born at Ballyeaston, Ireland, in 1873, and educated at Manchester Grammar School. He joined the staff of the Manchester Guardian in 1896 and was its special correspondent in America, Ireland and France. He left the paper in 1913 to become the Deputy Public Trustee and remained in the civil service until his retirement. He died in 1946 at his home in Manchester.
