Samuel was born in 1868. He died in 1896 at the age of 27.

Samuel Youngling was born September 23, 1868, to David and Elizabeth Price Youngling. Samuel's grandfather had been born in Germany and his grandmother in France. Both had immigrated to the U.S. before David, his father, was born. Samuel's father was a carpenter in Richland County, Illinois. Samuel married Barbara E Freeman on June 30,1885. Their children included Eunice (b 1886), Inez (b 1887), Alice (b 1889), Earl (b1893), and Roy (b 1896).

Samuel died September 4, 1896, in Lawrence County, Illinois less than a year after his youngest child, Roy was born. Samuel was buried at Ridgley where twenty- five years later his wife, Barbara would be buried beside him. They share a tombstone with an open book symbol on the top.
