Biography

• Son of Nishijima Heigoro [西島平五郎] and Omori Chizu. Sanzo was born on the 19th day of the 6th month of the 4th year of Meiji (calculated to 5 August 1871). The date 19 June 1871 is given on his grave marker, a result of not converting his pre-1873 lunisolar birth date to its Gregorian equivalent.
