Hi

I am Herbert Wade Townsend's granddaughter and I have been told that there are a couple of errors on this headstone. I know that William Isaac is Herbert's grandfather. Colyn and Terence (known as Tony) are my uncles.  Colyn was killed in the second world war. There are two other living brothers, one is my father.

Do you have any information/photos on Herbert Wade Townsend's in-laws, the (Dutch) Hogerzeil-family ?

Hi Erik

From the 1891 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription on Find my past - I have

Cornelis Hogerzeil - Head - Single 42 yrs, date of birth 1849; Commission Merchant, born in Holland (Netherlands).

Cornelia Hogerzeil - sister - single - born in Holland (Netherlands).

Lena Hogerzeil  - sister - single - born in Holland (Netherlands).

I also have a different surname for Cornelius's wife. I have her name as Mary Ann Gould and not as Mary Ann Swain.  Who married a Mr Evans after she was widowed and moved to Australia with him. She died in 1954.

My grandmother, Cornelia Mary Hogerzeil was born in London in 1892, a year after the census. She was one of four children. Her sisters were May, Helena and Hilda. The only other information I have is that Hilda was born in 1902 and died in Cape Town on 26 August 1972.  I have been told that the other two sisters did not stay in South Africa.

This is all the information I have about my grandmother Cornelia (Connie) and her family and would be very grateful for any other family information/photos  you can provide me with.  I will see what photos I can find.
Hi Pam,

I am your sister-in-law Sharon's sister. I'm trying to find out what I can for your branch of the tree,

Please share info with me.

Kind regards,

Carol
Hi Carol

Thanks for making contact.  I think you may be confusing me with my cousin's wife Pamela Townsend   who lives in South Africa.  Townsend is my maiden name and we emigrated to New Zealand in the early 90s.

I am also really interested in genealogy - but have not managed to find out much about the Townsends - so it was very exciting for me to stumble across this entry.

Are you using a website for your family tree?  I have started using the free mormon website, FamilySearch.  I have found Herbert Wade Townsend's and all his siblings Baptism records using this site.

kind regards

Pam
Hello Pamela,

Yes sorry I was referring to Anthony's wife.

I am busy with the Townsend line at present. I'm going to the Cape archives in 2 weeks to try and get the info needed.

Can you please share what you have.

Kind Regards,

Carol

Hi Carol

Will certainly share what I have - we will be away for the next couple of days so I will email you what I have when I get home.

all the best

Pam
Trying to find the birth of Cornelia Hogerzeil born 1892 Kentish Town apparently however only have her marriage and baptism, but need the birth certificate for a relative.  Can anyone help?

I can only comment on her ancestors of which the genealogy (HOGERZEIL) has been published in 'Nederland's Patriciaat' (= Netherlands' Patrician Families'), volume 81, the Hague, 1998. I remember visiting The National Archives in Kew, London in approx 1997, at which time I was unable to locate her birth certificate. All the 'updated' information on her and her family was found later with the assistance of professional genealogists in South Africa.

I have never been able to find her father's (Cornelis Hogerzeil, born Zierikzee, the Netherlands 11 September 1848, bookkeeper Delfos Bros & Co, electrical and general engineers in Pretoria in approx 1900) date and place of death. According to tradition he drowned in or around Cape Town in about 1905. His widow Mary Ann Swain (1868-1951) remarried -again according to tradition- in South Africa in approx 1908 Thomas Henry Evans.

Hello Erik

Once again thank you so much for your input, it is very much appreciated.

I was wondering if you are related to the Hogerzeil's ?

kind regards

Pam
Dear Pamela, Please note I'm not related to the Hogerzeil-family, but very well acquainted to them. I have published several articles on this family. Please send your email address to erik.a.n.kon@hotmail.com in order to enable me to contact you on a more direct basis.
It took me > 20 years to find out that Cornelis Hogerzeil (born Zierikzee, the Netherlands 11 September 1848) didn't drown in or around Cape Town in approx 1903, but died in Pretoria 15 September 1903 (Source: www.familysearch.org).

Hi Erik

I emailed you in Feb 2019 in response to your offer using your erik.a.n.kon@hotmail.com but did not hear from you.  I was very interested to see your comment made last month on Mar 25.  I would really love to see your articles on the family - so I will email my address to you again in the hopes that you will share the articles about the Hogerzeil family.

kind regards

Pam

kDear Erik

Many thanks for making contact with me - I know very little about my grandmother, Cornelia Hogerzeil and her family.  I would truly love to find out as much as I can, so I really appreciate what you have already shared with me on the WikiTree website and would value any other information you are happy to share with me.
Kind regards
Pam

Hi, did you mange to find this. I am looking for this birth certificate too.
Hi Jessica

As far as I can make out - No.  No one seems to have found it yet - but it is possible one day it will be uploaded onto the internet.

William George Townsend and  Elisabeth Antoinette Barends  Were my g g..great grandparents . I cannot find any information on the Barends side whatsoever. There is far bit around about the surruiers ( Elisabeth Antoinette mothers side?)

Please have a look at her with the surname VAN DER BERG. It would appear as if she had a previous BARENDS marriage. She is buried in the Woltemade Cemetery (Maitland), Cape Town, Cape, South Africa and has 11 children. One of the sons has van der Berg as a second name.
