I am seeking any information about the father (and mother too) of Jasper Weston who is WikiTree profile Weston-1101, my gg-grandfather. His father, who called himself "Jacque Weston" - that may not be his real name - refused to discuss his family or heritage and took his secrets to the grave.
Jasper Weston always said his father had had an earlier family in OHIO (Jasper was born 1833 in Blount Co., Alabama) and that he still had some contact with 2 older (half) brothers as a boy - They were named Bill (William) and Baker Weston. There is a funny family frontier story of how the 3 boys were playing in the woods near their home when Jasper was only 5 years old and he, Jasper, saw a panther creeping thru the brush. He yelled "Run Bill, Run Baker, there's a 'painter' comin'..." [Southern accent] but he forgot to run himself. Fortunately, the "painter" / panther = a mountain lion, no doubt - did not attack and no one was hurt. Does this story "ring a bell" ?? It's the best clue I have.
I also know that Jasper's mother's name was Julia Hodge / Hodges / Hogg and that the family legend is that she was a "mail-order bride" or the 19th Century equivalent of same, sent up from Virginia to marry a wealthy older settler somewhere in the Ohio River Valley area but when she saw him, she refused him and eloped with my recently-widowed "Jacque Weston" ggg grandfather instead. She is said to have been born 1797-98 in Virginia but that is Unproven. She is listed in the 1850 Blount County AL Federal Census as living alone with 2 unmarried Weston children: Neffa - age 21 and Jasper - age 17. She was: Weston, Elizabeth J., age 52, b. Va.
This is my most-recent Brick Wall ancestor pair. Thanks for any help.
