why am I suddenly getting advertisements? And is there a way to stop them?

I assume you're asking about ads in G2G, and not ads elsewhere on WikiTree. The other answers assume you're asking about G2G.

If you're asking about the main website, it could be that you're not logged-in. Logged-in members, especially signers of the Honor Code, should see no ads on the main WikiTree site.

If you are getting ads "suddenly," it might indicate that you recently stopped using an ad blocker, or possibly you changed the settings on your ad blocker.
