I would like to have a feed for profiles based on locations instead of just last names

I'm currently trying to trim down my watchlist and move over to following surnames, so that I don't have to "own" every profile I want to keep track of changes on.  There are some uncommon names where adding that name to my "following" section makes this easy, as everyone with that last name will inevitably be part of the family I'm interested in.  Other names, such as Davis and Ball, in my case, are so common that following the surname is completely useless, and I'd have to go through hundreds of updates on those profiles before I see one that I care about.

It just struck me that what I want is the ability to follow locations that profiles have attributed to them.  For me, for example, I'd be very interested to see updates to profiles of people that lived in Atchison County, Kansas.  Or Sevier County, Tennessee.  Or Jackson County, Ohio, for example, because those are some of the places my direct ancestors came from, and I'd be bound to find new connections between my family and those newly updated profiles.

Is this something we can possibly get added to WikiTree someday?  Has this been discussed before?  I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this (especially from those that could make it happen).

That is not something that is controlled by what WikiTree does. Your tags control what you are following and the things you are sent emails about. You can create any tag but unless other members are using the exact tag you will not get results. You would get some results if you had a tag for a state. The more specific the tag to an area the less likely other members will also have that tag.

Probably overkill, but you could start a One Place Study

Another option is to search for the locations in WikiTree+. That will give you a list of profiles that have a specific combination of words in one of the location fields. That is not really 'following either'. As Laura says, I think the only way at this moment is to use Tags.

I wouldn't mind have a simple way to follow updates in a specific place either by the way.

I agree with you. I would like to add certain counties within Tennessee in order to hopefully reach more relatives.

So many of my relatives are from Moore County, Franklin County or Lincoln County, Tennessee.

I would love this too, especially as I do have a one-place study.
