Should we run every profile we create through the connection finder to connect to AJ?

Here is the reason to connect profiles to the GFR (AJ):

http://globalfamilyreunion.com/volunteer/connect-for-the-cure/

For every person you can connect, A.J. will donate $1 to fighting Alzheimer’s, up to a total of $10,000! (We have partnered with the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund and the Alzheimer’s Association).

Thank you Doug, I was unaware of this.  We should certainly make sure that we as a group achieve the 10,000 mark.  I wonder how many have been connected already... any idea what the count might be? (only curious if there was a ballpark number already, please don't knock yourself out digging into it for me)
Don't fret, I don't think you are heartless. I figured not many people were aware of the charitable cause associated with the GFR. I don't know how many profiles are connected. Note- vember was huge, but AJ, Abby, Erin & Eowyn probably know the total.
Re: Connect for the Cure, we are focusing on counting connections made for cousins who specifically send in their information via the Global Family Reunion website. We then send that information to those volunteers who have shown an interest in helping research new connections for cousins, and keep a points tally so that researchers can earn fun prizes as well as help raise money for Alzheimers. If anyone is interested in participating in Connect for a Cure, they need to get in touch with Eowyn or me. We have several great WikiTreers who have helped cousins find their connection while helping to empty AJ's pockets for a good cause :-) We don't count just any connection, but those that are for folks who are requesting to be connected.

Hi Sharon,

I vote no.

Have a super day,

How else can we grow the global family tree? I run most of mine through, sometimes a string of connected profiles. I connect them to me and then to AJ.

But when I add unconnected profiles, it won't work. I call these "floaters".

Sharon
Hi Sharon, sounds fun.

I just think people have an interest in different things.  Some care how they are connected to mayflower passengers, some care about connecting to patriots, you care about connecting to AJ.  I just would not vote to push that on everyone is all.

Keep up the great work!

Robert

As you say, it is the easiest tool we have to ensure your profile is connected to the main tree.  I can understand some people not being keen on the AJ thing, but we do need a tool like this into the future.  I've heard Abby say before it could be any profile, but how do you know which one to pick if using connection finder?  What are we going to do after GFR?  Will the tool be adapted in some way?  As Robert has pointed out many people have differing views about what they value making a connection to.

Maybe we'll change it to our Wiki-Treer-in-Chief, Chris, once the GFR is over :-) The project will still be active making sure everyone is connected to the Global Tree, though, so we'll still have some sort of connection finder.
