Looking to find more information on James Alexander Sloan

Born 23 Mar 1702 in Glasserton, Wigtownshire, Scotland

Died about 1781 [uncertain] in Edinburgh, Scotland

Father of John Sloan, Born 13 Jun 1731 in Inch Parish, Glasserton, Wigtownshire, Scotland, Died 3 Jan 1813 in Moore County, North Carolina, USA

John Sloan was my first Sloan ancestor to emigrate to NC where my Sloan’s have lived for 300 years. My ancestry profile  suggests that through marriages to the Campbells and Stewart we go back to Scottish royalty in the 1500s and 1600s. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Feel free to edit your question, and add to the Tags, Scotland, Euroaristo and Royalty. It will help your question draw more attention from those who will be able to help more.

Ancestry suggestions, are often inaccurate. Where as, most of us like the thought that we can trace back to royalty, it is often harder to actually prove. And yet because of this, lots of trees get around, that aren't accurate. I know, our family claimed to trace back to Edward III, by a path that turned out to be wrong at one point, because we were descended from the second wife, and not the first. May seem small, but it made a huge difference.

I see you've done a really good job getting your tree in already, with lots of sources, which is great. Do consider joining the Voyage with the Profile Improvement Project, to get ideas from the team, on ways that you can make your profiles look even better.

Hopefully someone will be able to help you with your potential royal connection soon too. Welcome aboard.

I like your realistic point that many paths back to royalty or aristocracy are filled with errors.  I'm supposedly descended from James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton in Scotland, but I'm not sure I fully trust the research of other amateur genealogists over the years.
