My husband, mother is a Fitch. Which test would he take?

He would inherit his mother's mtDNA and his mother would have inherited her mother's mtDNA. Most likely, the grandmother's maiden name was not Fitch.

He is my 7th great grandfather.  For autosomal tests, my father Gerald appears on his profile as a possible match as well as several other.
If you have an autosomal test for any male in the family, you can run it through a clade finder to get a prediction for a Haplogroup.

You will find a Fitch study here and although there are not a lot of people there, if it is an R-M269, maybe not so helpful as it is very common - but should it be a T as some are here that would help narrow things down
