I have a database for Cox Families of Virginia and of course Andrew C. Cocke/Cox who married Penelope Ward is in it. I have him as the son of John Cocke/Cox b: 1724 d: 1800 & Mary E. Goad b: 1726 d: 1799. Andrew C. Cocke/Cox had a brother James Cocke/Cox (nothing else for him). I have John's parents as Charles Cox b: 1690 d: 1790 & Ida Bennett b: 1693 d: 1786. Mary E. Goad's parents are John Goad b: 1700 d: 1771 & Katherine Jennings b: 1703 d: 1741. I have Ida Bennett's father as Cosson Bennett b: unk. d: 1796.

I show Penelope Ward b: 1753 Bertie Co. N. C. d: 1802 Grayson Co. Va. One son with John Cocke/Cox also named John b: 1786 Grayson Co. Va. d: 1871 Va. married Jane Phillips b: 1789 Greasy Creek, Grayson Co. Va. d: 1851 Carroll Co. Va., their son Tobias Cock/Cox b: 1805 Grayson Co. Va. d: 1905 Elliott Co. Ky.

If you would like the documentation for the above info, just let me know.

Hi Allice,

Please do send the documentation regarding Penelope Ward who married Andrew Cocke, as you said a long while back on Wikitree.

Thanks,

Ruth Gravitt
In your info about Andrew/Penelope Cox family, do you have a son named Reuben Cox who married Elizabeth Ann Davis? I am looking for info on Reuben and Elizabeth Cox.

Thank you,

I have two Reuben Cox, one the son of Thomas Cox & Unk. wife, born 1786 d: 1870 married Susan Padgett. The 2nd Reuben was born 1793, I do not have a spouse for him, but parents are John Cox b: 1750 d: 1794 & Leander Bolling b: 1760 d: unk. The 2 Reuben’s father’s are brothers and descend from Charles Cox & Ida Bennett through their son Charles Cox (II) & Eleanor Watts & their sons Thomas & John. I find it unusual that the two brothers would name their sons Reuben without there being someone in the family by that name or possibly a good friend or historical figure of the time.

Thanks so much for your response. My Reuben Cox was born about 1755 (info gathered from an article in Purdie's Virginia Gazette dated 13 June 1777 that states he was a 22 year old deserter from VA 7th regiment). He died in 1835 in Belton area, Anderson Co, SC His wife was Elizabeth Davis of VA. They had a daughter born about 1784. I am looking for proof of their marriage and her parents. I don't think your two Reuben Cox are the same b/c of the dates given. Thanks again for help. It is very much appreciated. Deb
Alice, I would also like documentation or whatever you have on this, I know I asked once before but never received it. This just might be my mtdna line, Runyon is also in my  family, and Ward  as well.  Cossum Bennett wife also remarried into my French family.

Thank you and look forward to hearing from you!

This is a link to a website where most of my verification on this family came from.
