Can a Profile Manager DELETE one or more Profiles ?

TO: Those WikiTree'ers who can help me, please ...

I, as the Profile Manager (Peter Forder [ Forder-167 ]), have found that, for two REAL persons ( [ Forder-239 ] & [ Ashton-3039 ] (first created by me on 8th September 2021 and 3rd December 2020, respectively) ), another "Profile Manager ( Cindy Scott-Turner [ Paul-3679 ] )" - unknown to me, had (back on 9th June 2017 and 9th August 2019) - already created 3(three) totally INCORRECT Profiles - [ Forder-84 ]; [ Ashton-1715 ] and [ Forder-129 ].

So, what have to be "killed" are :-

Forder-84 ; Ashton-1715 and Forder-129

Note: I am not the Profile Manager for these 3 ... Cindy Scott-Turner is.

Although I have read ALL the WikiTree HELP Information on MERGING, I still find it very confusing and am fearful that the TRUE, REAL Profiles Forder-239 and Ashton-3039 will, suddenly, start showing INCORRECT Information AFTER the Merge.

So, "Can a Profile Manager DELETE one or more Profiles ?

and

In this case, who INSRUCTS Cindy Scott-Turner to eliminate the 3(three 'rogues' ?

I look forward to the best, simplest, most understandable answers.

Thank you for your time spent on this matter.

No, profiles can’t be deleted by a PM.  You need to propose the merges and collaborate with the other PM(s)to make sure that the correct information carries forward to the merged profile.  One way to do that is to be sure the correct information is well-documented.  You can post comments on both profiles highlighting that info also.  If the other PM isn’t active you will be able to complete the merge yourself after 30 days.

Hi Peter.  No, you can't delete profiles.  The solution is to merge the duplicates, and you can initiate that for your three candidates at the bottom left of the profiles by clicking the 'Initiate A Merge' link and identifying which profiles are to be merged.  If the LNABs are correct, the merge is done into the lowest ID number, regardless of the content of each profile.  The member who completes the merge sees a window that compares the data in both profiles side by side and selects what data is to be retained.  The free-form text in the Bio and Sources sections of both profiles is retained, and that needs to be cleaned up and edited manually into single Bio and Sources sections for the resulting profile.

If you propose the merges and the other PM does not respond, your proposal will receive automatic approval after 30 days.  If you and the other manager disagree on what items of data are correct, you should try to work that out with each other before completing the merge.  Once it's agreed, either of you can complete the merge, and you will both be PMs of the resulting profile.  Additions or changes can still be made to the resulting profile if necessary, so don't worry about losing valid data.

It looks like you have created a duplicate profile of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Forder-83 - Claude William Forder, profile created in 2017, the duplicate profile created by you https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Forder-190 in July 2021.

It was a bit hard to follow your description, but I think this is where we can see that these persons are from the same branch.

So it's not like someone has created faulty duplicates for your profiles - these were created before yours.

If you discover inaccuracies in profiles related to your tree and the profiles are open you are allowed to edit and correct them. It is considered polite to discuss the changes with the profile manager first.

It happens fairly often that we create duplicates inadvertently - but creating duplicates intentionally when there are errors in dates or places is not the way to go.
